PREVIEW: X-MEN DIVIDED WE STAND BOOK 1

In the wake of Messiah CompleX, there are no more X-Men…but what does this mean for those mutants who once united under Xavier’s dream? X-Men Divided We Stand Book 1 (of 2) sets up the new status quo for mutantkind, with an all star creator lineup including Mike Carey (X-Men: Legacy), Matt Fraction (upcoming Uncanny X-Men, Immortal Iron Fist), Craig Kyle (X-Force), Christopher Yost (X-Force), Skottie Young (New X-Men), Brandon Peterson (Ultimate Vision), Jamie McKelvie (Phonogram) and Sana Takeda (Drain)! Wrapped in a gorgeous cover by Peterson, this can’t-miss X-special follows your favorite mutants as they adapt to this bold new world. What’s happened to Cannonball and Husk? What did Nightcrawler do after Messiah CompleX? How disbanding the X-Men affect Storm, Black Panther and Neznho? And what about your favorite New X-man, Anole? Plus, there’s also an additional, previously unsolicited story starring Hellion and guest-starring Magneto!
“Before I’m even asked, yes, the stories impact several of the big X-Books, like Uncanny X-Men and Young X-Men,” says X-Editor Nick Lowe. “But the best part is that these stories peel back the curtain on some of your favorite X-Characters. The writers and artists REALLY rose to the challenge of their 8-pagers.”
Marvel urges retailers to check their orders on all X-Men titles, as the Divided We Stand tie-ins continue to sell out at Diamond and generate buzz. After the X-Men end, were does it leave the mutants who fought the good fight? Find out in X-Men Divided We Stand Book 1!

Marvel Superheroes Power Up For Nicktoons

Marvel superheroes are working overtime.
Iron Man and Wolverine, each the lead in an upcoming feature film, will be doing double duty in two new Nicktoons Network cartoons, Iron Man: The Animated Series and Wolverine and the X-Men.
The two TV series, which premiere in early 2009, are designed to play off the big-screen popularity of the Marvel comic-book characters. Iron Man, which stars Robert Downey Jr. as a rich inventor transformed by his high-tech armor suit, premieres May 2, while Hugh Jackman's Wolverine returns to the screen next spring in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
The new series match up well with Nicktoons' core audience, boys ages 6 to 14, general manager Keith Dawkins says. Boys make up 65% of the audience for the Nickelodeon property. "Our audience loves superheroes and … animation," he says. The Marvel characters also will help raise the profile of the digital cable network, which reaches 50 million homes.
Other big-screen films are spawning TV animation, too. Nicktoons' animated Speed Racer: The Next Generation premieres May 2, a week before the live-action, big-screen Speed Racer. The computer-animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars opens in theaters in August, leading into a new fall cartoon series on Cartoon Network and TNT.
The two Nicktoons-Marvel shows, each consisting of 26 half-hour episodes, will enjoy higher profiles because of the big-screen productions, which include three previous X-Men films. "We're trying to create synergy with the brand by having a continual awareness of different interpretations of the characters in the marketplace," says Eric Rollman of Marvel Studios, which has another animated series, The Spectacular Spider-Man, on the CW's Kids WB lineup.
For Nicktoons, the interpretation translates into a teen Iron Man, a superhero closer in age to the network's young viewers. The X-Men cartoon sees Wolverine thrust into the role of reluctant leader, as the beaten-down heroes must try to prevent a future world ruled by destructive robots. Source

PREVIEW: YOUNG X-MEN #1

In the wake of Messiah CompleX, there are no more X-Men…so just who are the Young X-Men? And why has Cyclops sent them after the newly formed Brotherhood? Enter Young X-Men #1, from rising-star scribe Marc Guggenheim (Amazing Spider-Man), fan favorite artist Yanick Paquette and red hot cover artist Terry Dodson! As old allies become deadly enemies, this team of former New X-Men and new recruits must navigate the treacherous waters of a world where every mission could be their last! An X-Men: Divided We Stand tie-in, this series helps lay the foundation for the future of mutants and comes wrapped in a stunning variant cover by the sensational Brandon Peterson! Plus, just wait till you see the shocking last page reveal of the new Brotherhood!
“This is the latest in the streamlining of the X-Books,” says X-Editor Nick Lowe. “Following Messiah CompleX we wanted to make sure that ALL the X-Books were firing on all cylinders and Marc and Yanick do their part.” This isn’t your run of the mill teen comic book, though. “The floor is littered with teen super-hero books and we know it. All the stops are pulled out for this one—tons of surprises, a rich tradition, a tight tie to X-Continuity and more intrigue than you can shake a stick at. As well as big consequences for some of your favorite teen mutants (and not just the ones on the cover)!”

Wolverine and the X-Men Extended Trailer

Foo Fighters Sue Marvel Comics Over X-Men Cartoon
The band alleges that Marvel used “substantial excerpts” of their songs “Best of You” and “Free Me” as the music for the trailer of the new animated series Wolverine and the X-Men. You can watch the trailer here, and it’s pretty obvious that the Foos are used to soundtrack the cartoon’s preview.

First look: Prequel gets its claws into Wolverine

As if a guy with temper issues, iron blades for fingernails and a penchant for cage fighting needed it, Wolverine is about to get even surlier.
"I know it seems odd given, you know, the guy is already half animal," says Hugh Jackman, who revives the character in Wolverine, due in theaters May 1, 2009. "But with all the success of the X-Men, you feel the pressure to keep pushing it further."
Jackman, also a producer on the film, says he never expected the story of mutants trying to fit in "to catch on the way it did." (Since the first film hit screens in 2000, the X-Men franchise has taken in more than $1.1 billion worldwide.) "But I became a fan of Wolverine like everyone else. That's why I keep holding on to the character."
Wolverine will be a prequel to the X-Men saga. It will center on the origins of the superhero with animal-like reflexes, an alloy skeletal system and the ability to heal from virtually any wound. He also could use a friend.
"I think one of the reasons the X-Men took off is that it connected in a way nobody saw," Jackman says. "They're mutants with powers. But they're also outcasts for being, and everyone connects with that on some level. And who wouldn't want the power to get back at the people who ostracized you?"
The film will trace Wolverine's past as he discovers the world of mutants and, ultimately, the ominous Weapon X program, which turns people into living weapons.
Jackman is tight-lipped on plot details, though he says the film will hardly be a one-mutant story.
Wolverine's nemesis Sabretooth "is going to play a big part in it. And there will be a good bit of cameos" of new and familiar mutants, he says. "But you can't give too much away, because fans are pretty hard-core. Their expectations go up a level every time you come out with a new film."

THE ALL NEW (AND NOT-SO-DIFFERENT) X-POSITION

SOILER WARNING: “Messiah CompleX” spoilers below. You’ve been warned.
It’s been a few weeks since the end of “Messiah CompleX,” the thirteen-part X-Men crossover event that saw the birth of a new mutant child. By the storyline’s conclusion, Bishop had been revealed as a traitor, Rogue had snapped out of her coma, Professor X was shot in the head, Cable “time-jumped” away with the miracle mutant baby, and Cyclops disbanded the X-Men.
If you’re waiting for the trade, you’ve missed a lot.
Currently, the X-books are running under the banner of “Divided We Stand.” “Uncanny X-Men” #495 was the first book out under this label, and in it readers found the X-Men scattered across the globe while Cyclops and Emma Frost vacationed in the Savage Land. This week, there’s a triple “Divided” threat: “X-Factor” #28, “X-Force” #1 and “Wolverine” #62 all appear on the stands of your local comic book shops.

Wolverine in Australia?

Hugh Jackman’s big pre-strike effort “Wolverine – the please-let-it-be-good prequel to “X-Men” – is eyeing off Australia as it’s possible filming location.
According to The Sunday Herald Sun, Jackman is taking meetings and signing cheques in an attempt to get the movie made down under. That way, I’m guessing, he can go straight from “Australia”, which he’s shooting now, into ‘Wolverine’ - and if any ADR or re-shoot commitments pop up for the former, he can just drive down the road and get it done; no passport needed.
The Gavin Hood-directed movie, which chronicles the backstory of the only man on earth hairier than Robin Williams, is set to lens early next year.
