Robert Downey Jr Talks ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Hulk’ Cameos
During a recent sit-down with actor Robert Downey Jr., the question of cameos was the burning question at hand. After all, we’ve been reporting for the past year that everyone from Sam Jackson to Hilary Swank are seemingly making the trek to Tony Stark’s neck of the woods. And that’s not even including William Hurt’s admission to MTV News in February that he shares a scene with Downey in “The Incredible Hulk.”So how did Downey respond to our inquiries? Well, he did admit that one unnamed star would “probably appear in the end credits” of “Iron Man,” but refused to confirm whether the subject in question is Jackson, Swank or a third party. He managed to be a bit more forthcoming on the topic of his “Hulk” cameo, revealing the moment in question.
“It happens to be a scene where I basically approach [William Hurt’s character, General Ross], and we may be considering going into some sort of limited partnership together,” Downey stated.
Adding, Downey said, “The great thing is he — and I don’t want to give too much away — but he’s in disrepair at the time I find him. It was really fun seeing him play this really powerful character who’s half in the bag.”

Putting Hurt on Hulk
Acting involves problem-solving -- whether you're portraying the president of the United States in Vantage Point or a formidable comic-strip villain in The Incredible Hulk.At least, that's how William Hurt sees it. And while he's on the subject, he'd very much like people to stop describing his General Ross character in the upcoming Hulk as a "villain."
Nobody is just a plain and simple villain, he argues. Not even Shakespeare's diabolical Richard III, whom Hurt portrayed to critical acclaim at Winnipeg's Manitoba Theatre Centre a few years ago. "They're all conflicted," he says cheerfully. "Definitely -- yes!"
This is certainly true of General Thaddeus (Thunderbolt) Ross, who is continuously on the warpath against his unfortunate son-in-law Bruce Banner, a guy who suffers the misfortune of turning into a giant green monster whenever he's emotionally stressed.
The movie, opening in June, is Universal's act of atonement for the fans who were outraged by Ang Lee's self-consciously artsy 2003 treatment of their beloved Marvel hero. This version stars Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, a.k.a. The Hulk, while Hurt takes over from Sam Elliott as Thunderbolt Ross.
Like everyone else connected with the production, Hurt is sworn to secrecy about its content. But the 57-year-old actor, who won an Oscar for his performance as a tragic drag queen in Kiss of the Spider Woman, says he couldn't wait to play Thunderbolt this time round. That's because he loved the comic as a kid.
