  1. This book is an insult to anyone who reads it, Ennis wrote one of the best punisher stories ever in welcome back frank, and then he writes the worst punisher story ever here.

Ennis admits he hates superheroes, so he writes daredevil, wolverine and spider-man like some fanboy would write them, Punisher does not need skill or tactics to beat them like he has over the years, no the writer does away with their powers at random, spider-mans spider sense just no longer exists for a scene so punisher can trick him, daredevil a kung fu artist, who has take on an army of ninjas, loses his powers at random as well, his radar sence that warns him as people get close, his super hearing, his sense of smell, all gone, this enables punisher to just jump him and take him down.

no reason is given, it’s just a smear on the characters, if you want humor and characters beign made fun of in a well written manner than try She-Hulk: single white female or a young justice book.

Also the reasons for them goign after him make no sense, wolverine is a killer with maybe a higher body count than punisher, daredevil has made truces with punisher and has teamed up with him many times, and has killed people himself, spider-man has never been one to track him down, so all of a sudden they just want to go after him?

the heroes are written as idiots, they can be fooled by punisher offering a hamburger, wolverine, who yes has a temper, is shown flying off the handle like he’s insane.

the story drags as well, the heroes acting like idiots goes on for 5 issues, if this was the gong show it would have lasted only half an issue.

so save your money, there are many more punisher stories out there. Rating: 1 / 5

  2. the story is so very shallow, the book is six issues of gore, cussing and as much over the top stuff as ennis can pack in here, ennis is like a kid in a candy store and was bad enough before they took away the censors.

The book is set in a new “max” world where frank is not surrounded by by super heroes and none of the events of his old books exist (otherwise one of the charcters here would be stone cold dead), some might like that but I think the interactions with the old characters brought a lot to the book, but other than one character in the book, none of the ong history of enemies and allies have been around under ennis run, it’s a shame since so many of them are just left hanging in limbo, unresolved, and some enemies like Jigsaw are never to be seen again i guess.

With great titles like river of blood or even the ennis classic welcome back frank, i just can’t see the need to get this unless your running out of punisher titles. Rating: 2 / 5

  3. Garth Ennis’ run on the re-launched Marvel Knights Punisher has had its’ up’s and down’s, and Confederacy of Dunces is no different. This TPB has it’s share of good and bad points, but it’s a worthy sendoff of the book before it was re-laucnhed (yet again) as a Marvel Max title. In this book, Marvel’s big three characters (Daredevil, Spider-Man, and Wolverine) team up to take down the Punisher, but good ‘ol Frank has a few surprises in store for them, including a special guest star who will no doubt leave the reader laughing. Ennis’ disdain for superheroes shows here as he shows the three bumbling amd fumbling through their mission. The big downside here however, is that there are times when the book seems like it will go into that bizarre Ennis territory that he was known for in Preacher, and nothing ever comes from it. The art by Ennis’ Hitman partner John McCrea is solid, and it suits the character well, but if you want to read an excellent Punisher story, pick up any issue of the new Marvel Max series, where Garth Ennis has made the Punisher a force to be reckoned with once again. Rating: 3 / 5

  4. While the quote is actually from a previous issue, those few words speak volumes for this, the latest Punisher graphic from Marvel Knights. Reprinting Marvel Knights Punisher issues #33-37, Confederacy of Dunces is the reuniting of Garth Ennis and John McCrea. This is the duo responsible for Hitman. Those of you who enjoyed Hitman will love this tome. It has a flippant irreverence for Superheroes that only the Ennis/McCrea duo could pull off.

The plot forms around Spiderman, Daredevil, and Wolverine gathering in an attempt to reign in Punisher, who has wronged them all in one way or another. (See the first three Punisher graphics for full details and lots of naughty laughs). But Frank has his own secret weapon, a drugged up, enraged Hulk.

This volume also sees the return of Spacker Dave, and a happy end for Detective Soap. What else can I say? Ennis is brilliantly wicked and funny in this one! McCrea’s art is art and comedic at the same time! This graphic is a worth addition to any collection.

    Rating: 5 / 5

  5. Believe me, I like this book. I like this book a lot. There’s much to enjoy in it(especially if you are a Marvel and/or DC fan)and of course it is cool to the core. Here are all of the pros and cons:

    Pros:

Punisher is just as vicious on criminals, but just as caring for the innocent, as he ever was the day he became a tough vigilante.

The fight scenes are superb, and you will really like the huge and thunderous impacts, and also the WHAMs and POWs and all that.

Many other cool characters appear along with Castle. They are of course Daredevil, Spider-Man, and Wolverine. All these guys rock and I think the way they team up yet argue is quite funny.

There is non-stop action, and the art is nearly perfect. Also, the Hulk appears, fighting on neither side and being hilariously out of control.

There are many memorable quotes in this book, such as “I said I’m in the mood for a cheeseburger.” and “Go to hell!”(from Daredevil to Punisher)Others include “You can tell the sun not to rise in the morning. But it will just come up anyway.” All this and more.

Spacker Dave appears for the last time. I think he’s sorta funny.

    Cons:

I wish Jigsaw appeared in this. He’s my favorite Punisher villain and a fight between him and Castle really would’ve rocked.

Even if the three against Castle meant well, why was Daredevil doing it? He’s killed people before. Or at least tried to(Ahem, Bullseye!)Spider-Man has teamed up with Castle repeatedly. Helped him defeat crime. Why would he, of all people, turn on an ally? Wolverine is the one who likes Punisher the most. What Castle did must have been an accident. Besides, Wolverine may have said that he was going to stop Castle killing, but Wolverine is a killer of crime himself! As said in one review, he probably has a higher body count than Punisher. What the (BEEP) is going on here, huh?

All in all and overall, this is a great 5 issue collection of comics. I like it very much, it is one of the best, and it is pure spun gold(or black?)It is a must have for any Punisher fan. Rating: 4 / 5
