IRON-CLAD DATE: MAY 2, 2008
Press Release
“IRON MAN,” DIRECTED BY JON FAVREAU, TO KICK OFF SUMMER 2008
Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment will kick off the 2008 summer movie-going season on May 2nd with Iron Man, the first motion picture to be produced by Marvel under its alliance with Paramount, it was announced today by Rob Moore, President, Worldwide Marketing, Distribution, and Operations, Paramount Pictures; Michael Helfant, President and COO, Marvel Studios; and Kevin Feige, president of production for Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios is a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: MVL). Jon Favreau will direct the film, based on Marvel's best-selling Iron Man comic book character.
The Iron Man film will be produced by Avi Arad, creative advisor to Marvel Studios, and Kevin Feige. Executive Producers are Ari Arad, Mr. Favreau and Louis D'Esposito. This project, the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Entertainment, is expected to be financed through Marvel's $525 million revolving film financing facility and distributed under Marvel's overall distribution arrangement with Paramount. Iron Man will mark the first production under Mr. Arad's newly launched production company, Avi Arad Productions.
Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Helfant said, "We're very excited to lock down the release date for Iron Man, Marvel's first independently produced feature film. We couldn't have asked for a better partner than Paramount to work with on this very powerful character franchise."
Mr. Feige added, "We're thrilled to be launching the summer 2008 movie season with Iron Man. Marvel has had great success with the first Friday in May – 'Spider-Man' broke records on that first Friday and 'X2' debuted at the top of the box office charts as well. We're looking forward to extending that track record with Iron Man and are extremely pleased with the progress of the script, the production team we are forming and the initial production designs."
Moore said, "Marvel is one of our most important partners and Iron Man is one of their premier heroes. We're thrilled to be launching our relationship – and the summer season in 2008 – with this movie."
Based upon Marvel's iconic Super Hero, the film will follow billionaire weapons-manufacturer, Tony Stark, who confronts the sins of his past after he is injured by one of his own weapons. Equipped with a high-tech suit of armor, he becomes Iron Man to combat evil on a global scale.
Paramount Pictures is part of the entertainment operations of Viacom Inc., one of the leading global entertainment content companies, with prominent and respected brands in focused demographics across virtually all media.
With a library of over 5,000 characters, Marvel Entertainment, Inc. is one of the world's most prominent character-based entertainment companies. For more information visit :Marvel.com .

HOWARD CHAYKIN NAMED ARTIST FOR MARVEL's BLADE
Press ReleaseFan-favorite artist Howard Chaykin has officially been announced as the artist on the launch of the upcoming Blade series alongside writer Marc Guggenheim. Chaykin, probably best known for his American Flagg series, is ready to take the vampire-hunter to new heights as he combines horror with super-heroics.
Marc Guggenheim is thrilled at the chance to be working with Chaykin. “I've been a longtime fan of Howard's work,” says Guggenheim. “His American Flagg and Blackhawk series were incredible inspirations to me. He has a dynamic, exciting style that has remained an original voice that I have yet to see any artist duplicate. That's a very rare thing in comics.”
When asking for a Blade artist, Guggenheim couldn’t be more pleased to have Chaykin help him launch this title. “I think Howard's the perfect choice for Blade,” added Guggenheim. “Let's be honest, his involvement brings a level of cache, of class to the project that I don't. Moreover, he's the pitch-perfect choice given what we're trying to do with this new Blade series, which is to appeal to both fans of horror and super-hero action alike. Howard's style is "clean" enough to give it that classic super-hero look, but he can also pull off the darkness that a vampire-hunting comic requires.”
Joining Guggenheim and Chaykin is newcomer Marko Djurdjevic whose mind-blowing covers ensure that he won’t be an unknown commodity for long.
The hero that starred in three movies and a television series on the way is getting his own miniseries in Blade #1. With talent like Guggenheim, Chaykin, and Djurdjevic taking over the popular mainstream vampire-hunter, you can bet that Blade is going to be one heck of a rollercoaster ride. Just check out the first issue as it features not only Dracula, but also your Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler, Spider-Man.

When Comic Books Attack!! 24-Hour Marathon of Films Made From Comic Books

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- "Superman Returns," "X3" and "Spider-Man 3" ... with the ever increasing trend of turning comic books into blockbuster films, "Starz The Hollywood Reporter: Comic Books on Film" explores this "super" natural phenomena with a half-hour original special that examines why these films continue to leap off the lot of Hollywood studios landing into movie theaters all over the world. The special includes interviews with Brandon Routh, the new Superman, Christian Bale of "Batman Begins," Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry both of "X-Men: The Last Stand." "Comic Books on Film" premieres on Starz, June 25th at 6:30 p.m. as part of a 24-hour marathon of comic book inspired films.
"It seems that nearly every popular comic book is being made and remade into a cinematic version, from 'Sin City,' 'Hellboy,' 'Batman,' 'Spider-Man,' 'Superman,' to 'The Hulk,'" says Michael Ruggiero, vice president of programming for Starz Entertainment Group. "'Starz The Hollywood Reporter: Comic Books on Film' focuses on the impact and success that these comic books have had by being turned into films."
In addition to the special, Starz will air a marathon of films based on comic book figures: "Hellboy," "Sin City," "Tank Girl," "Steel," "Judge Dredd," "Blade: Trinity" and "Nick Fury: Agent of Shield."

MOON KNIGHT #1 DIRECTOR'S CUT HITS STORES JUNE 28
Press ReleaseMoon Knight has made a triumphant return in his very own ongoing series thanks to Charlie Huston and David Finch. Now, you can see how Huston and Finch captured lightening in a bottle and restored the Fist of Khonshu to his former greatness in Moon Knight #1 Director’s Cut.
Featuring Charlie Huston’s script of the first issue as well as early sketches by David Finch, Moon Knight #1 Director’s Cut is the definitive look behind how Moon Knight became one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Universe once again.
Moon Knight #1 was an overwhelmingly successful relaunch, especially considering that Moon Knight hasn’t had his own series in almost a decade. Retailers were happy to report that Moon Knight #1 was flying off their shelves complimenting the critical success it has received.
Robert Guadagno, retailer, New Moon Comics said, "This is the first time, in over 30 years of my involvement in this industry (as a fan and currently a retailer) that I’ve read the same book multiple times in one sitting. Everything about Moon Knight #1 was perfect to me, the story; although not what I expected at the end, was heart wrenching. David’s art was exactly what Moon Knight deserves – Impact, emotion, and most of all respect!"

The Word on Black Widow: What's Happening With The Marvel movie?
June 5, 2006 - IGN FilmForce has been informed that the live-action feature film version of Marvel Comics' Black Widow has been dropped by Lionsgate. The studio was said to have let the project go due to the less than stellar box office results for other recent female-driven action films. (Ultraviolet and Aeon Flux perhaps?)IGN sought comment on this from the film's writer-director, David Hayter, who confirmed the bad news. Hayter told IGN that after Lionsgate dropped Black Widow, "Marvel and I then spoke to a few other financing entities, but I never felt comfortable that we had found a place that was willing to take the movie, and the character, seriously."
He continued, "I have put it aside until a reputable studio comes along, but in the meantime, I am heartbroken. I love this character, I love the story/world we came up with for her, and I sincerely hope the movie gets done some day. In the meantime, I am creating an original feature to shoot next year."
Black Widow was to be a contemporary and realistic espionage adventure that would have taken the Black Widow into Kazakhstan, to the Red Room and beyond.

'X-Men' Franchise Mutates Into A Pack of Solo Films
The X-Men mutants plan to divide and conquer. After last weekend's four-day, $122.9 million debut of X-Men: The Last Stand, the third film in the Marvel Comics series, producers are devising ways to launch some characters into their own franchises.
The first spinoff will be Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. His character has an as-yet-unrevealed back story in which researchers replaced his original bones with a metal skeleton. Jackman has signed on to star and co-produce, and X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner says it will likely head into production next year.
"We've also talked about doing something on the kids in (Professor X's) school, focusing on their lives, and less of a global adventure for the team," says Hutch Parker, production president of 20th Century Fox.
The studio is also exploring a movie with Three Kings director David O. Russell based on the character of Emma Frost, a sexy mutant telepath who can transform her skin into diamonds. She is an X-Men comics regular but was not featured in the movies.
Another likely solo project: Magneto, also in the script phase. The film will focus on his youthful pre-villain days, Shuler Donner says.
Though it would require a younger actor for those sequences, she says the film would need Ian McKellen to anchor the flashbacks. "What's a Magneto movie without Ian?" she asks.
